Woodland Chase
Old Felton Farm, NE65 9NT
Tucked away in beautiful woodland, located next to a family farm, The Treehouse at Woodland Chase offers a countryside escape like no other.
“Stroll up the short mossy path, climb the spiral staircase and pass the wood-fired hot tub to reach your home away from home. Pause for a moment to take it all in – remember, you’re on holiday. The Treehouse has been built sympathetically with the surrounding nature so that even once you’re inside, the flora and fauna aren’t far away. The unconventional tree-turned-coat rack, abundance of plants and soft lighting add to the character of this charming space.
The picturesque view from the decking stretches across farmland and towards the sea. Watch the sun set from loungers crafted from aged whiskey barrels or stargaze using the binoculars provided. Piles of games and books will fill rainy days – no matter the weather, the wood-fired hot tub is best enjoyed with a glass of (complimentary) fizz in hand. As well as a bottle of Prosecco, you will receive a hamper filled with a variety of delicious local produce, from farm fresh eggs to gourmet chocolate.
The kitchen is equipped with everything you should need, including six different loose leaf Bari Teas and ingredients for S’mores. Essentials such as milk, butter and oil are supplied.”
Sky Den
Kielder Forest Park, Calvert Trust Kielder NE48 1BS
The Sky Den is as as magical as it is unique.
“The Sky Den was built by William Hardie Designs and in an original move, this treehouse is composed of three different shapes that each blend together the best of outdoors and indoors, taking in everything from the red squirrels in the trees around you to the sweeping river just below. The square is the central point of the treehouse and your main living space, with glass doors opening onto a wide balcony with captivating views over the river. Inside, George has exploited his small spaces expertise to create an impressively versatile space, with a functional kitchen in a clutter-phobe’s paradise of fold-away furniture (including two single beds) and wet room accessible from the deck.
Then there’s the circle, a simple viewpoint of corrugated iron, where you can have a picnic and brew up a cuppa the old-fashioned way over the wood-burning stove. Finally, the triangle is the loft space of your already lofty suite, accessed by steps from the outside deck. In good weather, when there is no wind, it’s possible to open the whole roof for an unobstructed view of the gold tier Northumberland Dark Skies. It’s not just the structure that makes this place amazing. Set in the heart of Kielder Water & Forest Park and a short walk from the main activity centre, this will enchant wildlife lovers and adventure-seeking families alike; Calvert Kielder has 30 years of experience in providing unforgettable, accessible and fully inclusive activity holidays for people of all abilities.
As well as sharing the forest with around 50% of England’s native red squirrel population and two regular pairs of osprey, you’ve got water-sports, rope courses, climbing, orienteering and much more, literally on your doorstep. Book onto an activity day or discover England’s largest forest and its many woodland trails for yourself. The Sky Den is designed to enjoy nature and the elements. With its opening roof and an open-sided deck platform, as one would expect, at certain times of the year when Northumberland can get a bit chilly, it can be a bit more of an outdoors experience too! So remember to bring warm clothes and get involved in celebrating nature and outdoor living, year round in this truly incredible structure…”
